Is there a lifetime limit on how often I can switch Medicare Advantage and Medicare Part D plans?

There is no lifetime limit on how many times you can switch Medicare Advantage or Part D prescription drug plans. Your ability to change plans depends on enrollment periods and qualifying events. During the Annual Election Period from October 15 through December 7, you can change plans with coverage starting January 1. The Medicare Open Enrollment Period from January 1 through March 31 allows one change from a Medicare Advantage plan to another Medicare Advantage plan or back to Original Medicare. You can also switch during a Special Enrollment Period if you move outside your plan’s service area or experience other qualifying life events. All Medicare Advantage and Part D plans operate on a calendar year basis, so benefits and deductibles reset every January 1 regardless of when you enrolled. Changes must be made during these defined enrollment periods to ensure proper coverage transitions.
